It’s been several weeks since Waterton Lakes National Park reopened to the public. It had been closed for two weeks in September, due to the Kenow wildfire. My wife and I had not been to the park since late April and on Monday we decided to go for a visit to see how it fared through the fiery ordeal.

We live in a world filled with color. We are surrounded by color and see it everywhere. To borrow a few words from Louis Armstrong’s classic 1967 tune, “What a Wonderful World,” we see color in everything around us, whether it’s “trees of green, red roses too, skies of blue and clouds of white,” or in “the colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky.”
Life would be awfully dull and boring if we lived in a world where there was no color, and where everything could only be seen in black and white. Yet, there is something to be said about seeing things in black and white, particularly when it comes to photography.

It’s that time of the season where some of the best dry-fly fishing on our local streams occurs late in the day. This is especially true in places like the Crowsnest River, where bright, sunny weather, combined with low, clear water conditions, can cause larger trout to wait until just before dark before they start to feed. Trout fishing has long been a popular activity in Crowsnest Pass. Numerous rivers and streams in the area have been attracting anglers from near and far for decades. Perhaps the best known of these waters is our very own Crowsnest River. When it comes to trout streams, the Crow is one of the most user-friendly places to fish in the province. The Crowsnest Pass Public Art Gallery’s summer show opens on Saturday. This year’s exhibition, INTERPRETING CANADA: An Artist’s Portrait, celebrates Canada’s 150th Anniversary. The various works showcased in the exhibit are a visual representation of what Canada means to the artists who created these pieces. A variety of mediums such as acrylics, oil, mixed media, sculpture, and photography will be on display. I’m extremely pleased, and honoured, to have one of my photographs, Promising Waters, selected for the exhibit.
The art gallery is located right along Highway 3 in the town of Frank. The show runs from July 22 – August 27. Admission is free.
On Tuesday afternoon, I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. I also happened to have my camera with me and was able to get a few photos of the event.
